Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Botox is an FDA-approved drug that temporarily paralyzes muscles to treat certain muscle conditions, reduce wrinkles, or stop sweat.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes excessive sweating. Excessive sweating occurs in people who sweat more than necessary, and is usually unrelated to warm temperatures or exercise. Generally, a person suffering from hyperhidrosis will sweat excessively from a certain area, such as the palms, underarms, or face. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this type of heavy sweating often causes social anxiety and embarrassment. Luckily, Botox can be used to treat hyperhidrosis.

How can Botox treat hyperhidrosis?

Botox is an FDA-approved drug that temporarily paralyzes muscles to treat certain muscle conditions, reduce wrinkles, or stop sweat. Botox works by blocking the secretion of the chemical that activates sweat glands.

What can I expect during my appointment?

During the procedure, we will inject Botox (around 50 units) into the area where your excessive sweating occurs. A topical anesthetic may be applied to manage discomfort, but the procedure itself is quick, lasting no more than ten minutes. Botox injections require zero downtime; you are free to return to your normal activities immediately.

What can I expect from the results?

Results may be noticeable within 24 to 48 hours, but peak results will become apparent after 2 weeks.* The more units injected, the longer the drying effects tend to last. Everybody breaks down Botox differently, so the duration of the results will vary. Typically results will last for 3 to 6 months after your injections.*

Am I a candidate?

Botox is only recommended for people with severe cases of axillary hyperhidrosis that cannot be treated with topical solutions. Botox should be a last line of defense for heavy or severe underarm sweating. We encourage you to explore non-invasive options like sweat-proof clothing and prescription antiperspirants first.
