When you’ve decided to treat yourself to a professional facial, you’ll probably want to do everything you can to achieve the best results possible. That’s where good pre and post-care come into play!
In order to prepare your skin for a facial and keep it glowing afterword, follow these steps.
Before Your Facial
You should be doing this anyway, but, especially in the days leading up to your facial, make sure you drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin helps create a bright complexion and get rid of toxins in your skin, priming it for your facials.
While you should always avoid bed-tanning for your health and safety, before your facial, you should also skip the spray tans. Not only can tanning irritate your skin, but you’ll have a slightly different skin tone after your facial, so your tan won’t match anymore. You may also require a gentler facial to repair sun damage, which will then take away from your intended treatment.
List Out Your Self Care Regimen
When you arrive for your facial, have a list of your skincare products, medications, allergies, and any past skin conditions. This can help your technician choose the best products to use for your skin.
Waxing your lip, eyebrows, or another part of your face before your facial since that can lead to more sensitive skin heading into your appointment.
After Your Facial
We know it’s tempting to try and scratch off a little whitehead left behind after a facial, but don’t! If you had extractions done and there are little blemishes leftover, your technician likely left there for a reason. Picking at them can irritate already sensitive skin.
A professional facial leaves skin very raw and sensitive, so you should wait at least a few days before using any sort of exfoliating product.
Don’t Hit the Gym
All the sweat and internal heat that will build up in your body after your workout can irritate your skin. It’s best to wait a couple of days after your facial to hit the gym.
